I love autumn. I think it’s actually my favorite season, except for the fact that the temperatures start dropping. But I’m a “cleaner” at heart (though you might not realize that looking at my housekeeping at the moment). But as much as I love the gardens during the spring and summer, there’s something about going through the yard and cutting out the dead and the overgrown, raking out the leaves and branches, mowing for that one last time so the lawn is fresh and ready to go in the spring…I think that’s the whole thing about autumn. It’s a time to clear out the crap and then sit back, relax, and wait for that brand new beginning in the spring. Then spring comes and it’s rush, rush, rush to get everything planted and organized, before all the plant life starts coming to life and taking over. Summer’s the time of maintenance – keeping the lawn mowed, the flowers clipped, and trying to do the other projects as time permits, all amidst the heat and humidity that only the Midwest can produce. I hate maintenance. I want to do a job and then it’s done. Period. Which is why I hate housecleaning, laundry, and washing dishes. Those are things that just have to be done over and over and over, and there’s no feeling of accomplishment because it does have to be done over and over and over. And yeah, all the clean up in the fall has to be done again – but not until the next fall, and then it’s “new” cleanup. And the yard looks so nice when it’s had its final grooming of the year. Like it’s just waiting for that fresh start.

I guess I just like fresh starts. Maybe I’ll have one of my own, one day.

Well, this is my first blog and I’ve already managed to lose my first comment. Anyway, I’ll be posting random thoughts and voicing my opinion about various things, so if you want contemplation and rabble rousing, this might be a good place to look.
